Aspects Care in Birmingham has been realising the talents of young people by providing opportunities in the care sector through a Local Employment Partnership (LEP) with Jobcentre Plus.
Caring primarily for people with Autism, behavioural problems, learning difficulties and from unsettled backgrounds, Aspects Care is growing quickly and expanding into home care provision for the elderly, which means taking on and training new staff.
Their LEP Account Manager at Jobcentre Plus approached Raja Khan, the Operations Director at Aspects Care to see if the organisation would consider taking on young people as part of Backing Young Britain.
Raja, said: “We set up a recruitment event with Jobcentre Plus and Birmingham City Council. We interviewed 18 people and 10 were selected for pre-employment training and got the job. They all did eight care courses and passed and are now employed with us. 100% success rate, fantastic.”
Michelle Bird, a recruitment officer, was one of the young people who came to a recruitment event. She was offered a job for three months to support the HR department after University. She then became a full time member of staff and now leads on recruitment and works on Backing Young Britain and Local Employment Partnerships.
Michelle adds: “It was a fantastic opportunity to get into the care industry and develop the right skills.”
